From camp culture

to community culture

When we think of a construction site, dull imageries come to mind, with tired people and lifeless evenings. A life of labour work does not have to be this way. Imagine all construction sites with a recreation centre! Where a worker would earlier simply be bored and have nothing to do on the weekends, he/she now has a lively and happening atmosphere to be part of. Amidst laughter, friendships and playing, the worker is more likely to live a satisfied and dignified life. That is our vision, for each worker to experience life beyond survival, for them to experience empathy, joy and most importantly, dignity. We invite you to help us achieve this.

SAATHI PROJECT
Workshops on Exploring empathy

In association with Manasi Barmecha

This project was born out of the need to sensitize employees (managers) of Rohan builders and explore ways to extend empathy towards the laborers whose lives we ultimately aim to make better and dignified.

A positive impact on the lives of laborers can only be made if the managers truly understand why empathy and understanding are important and a sense of a team is built. In 4 sessions spaced across a month, we aimed  to bring people closer to each other, to build a sense of community, model an ethic of care and pass a message of well-being to all workers at construction sites at Rohan Builders.

A message of well-being

We are committed to developing a culture of care for everyone that works with us. The importance of labour work is often overseen and we want to remind ourselves that we need our employees just as much as they need us.

VISIBILITY

As home buyers, we also want our customers to know and acknowledge the hands that worked to build their homes. For our new projects, the key handover will be done by the workers themselves. This symbolic gesture, we believe, is a step in the right direction. Along with getting possession to their new homes, our customers also receive a copy of our in-house publication 'Behind your home' which maps the lives and personalities of some of our workers. Find some snapshots of the book below.

A heartwarming of the house

Imagine you made a little origami bird. You want to gift it to someone, won't you be excited to see their reaction? To see where they put that bird on their showcase?

Now imagine you built a house, wouldn't you want to meet the people who would live there, day in and out in the product of your loving labour?

Buying a home is a very special occasion. Our aim was to make this moment meaningful for the ones who built the home too. At every home handover, we bring together the artists and the purchasers of their art in an intimate ceremony where the workers bless the house with colours of happiness, well being, peace and more through colours on a scroll. We believe that the blessings of the workers are the most important ones, and the most relevant for those living in the house.

We all have housewarmings and celebrate with our friends and family. Here, we extend our family to include our workers and warm our hearts with gratitude for them!
